The term “screen” is a compound Japanese word meaning “windbreak” which was literally function when it was created. They are from China (the earliest dating from the time of the Han dynasty, which reigned from 206 B.C. to 220 A.D.) from where they went to Japan more or less in the eighth century. In this country they were widely developed and hence “traveled” to Europe where it became very popular.
The screens are panels made structures of different materials: wood, wrought iron, steel and coatings also of different materials, fabric through paper, wrought iron, wood and even mirrors. Eventually creativity in their designs has soared and found even heather or branches.
